Victims Compensated after Mining Accident Kills 9

A coal mine owner agreed on Thursday to provide compensation amounting to 660,000 yuan (100,400 U.S. dollars) for each family of nine miners killed in a gas explosion on Wednesday in southwest China's Yunnan Province.
A gas leak happened in the Jiala Coal Mine in Huangnihe Town in Fuyuan County at 1:06 a.m. on Wednesday.
Eighty-five workers were in the pit, 74 of whom escaped. Eight were killed at the scene while one died later at a hospital.
The accident also injured two miners, who are receiving treatment in the hospital and reported to be in stable condition.
