Senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official Zhou Yongkang on Friday urged law-enforcement agencies across the country to serve the public and accept public supervision.
At the annual sessions of the National People's Congress and the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference that closed early this week, lawmakers and political advisors suggested proposals on the work of law-enforcement, Zhou, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, told a plenum of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee convened in Beijing.
"Organizations of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee should correct the problems the lawmakers and political advisors had pointed out and strive to improve the law-enforcing work," said Zhou, also secretary of the CPC Central Committee's Commission for Political and Legal Affairs.
Law-enforcement agencies at different levels of the country should adopt more measures to battle crimes, protect people's legitimate rights and improve supervision from the public this year, he said.
"Efforts should also be made to explore new ways for social management and maintaining stability," he said.
Zhou reiterated the importance of further accepting the concept of serving the people, instead of administering them. He added that effective social management would be realized through improved governance and service to the public.
