Rescue operations were delayed yesterday, March 27, as rescuers struggle to reach victims of the earthquake that hit Myanmar on March 24.
The authorities have confirmed 75 people were killed by the earthquake and fear that the number of casualties will continue to rise as they experience difficulties in transportation. According to a report in Yahoo! News, Tachileik town and nearby Tarlay and Mong Lin in Myanmar s Shan state appeared to have been most severely affected by the quake which was felt as far away as the Vietnamese capital Hanoi.
The charity World Vision estimates that there may be 15,000 people that have been affected in the worst-hit areas. The charity group, together with the health ministry, is sending water purification tablets, first aid kits, and emergency shelters and supplies to those affected by the 6.8-magnitude earthquake that hit Myanmar.
