South Korea's two full-service carriers, Korean Air Lines Co. and Asiana Airlines Inc., said Friday that they are gearing up to increase their overseas flights to meet busy summer season demand.
The two carriers plan to raise their overseas flights by a combined 165 flights per week from late this month to the end of October, they said in a statement. The plan is subject to approval by the transportation ministry.
The ministry said it will soon decide whether to give the green light to the plan after reviewing it.
Industry leader Korean Air said it will increase its overseas flights by 92 a week, with its weekly flights to China rising to 44 on 16 routes.
Asiana said it will raise its weekly overseas flights by 73, launching three flights a week to Istanbul, Turkey.
