Air India Announces Expansion Plans

Air India Central Europe regional manager Ratan Bali says the airline's impending membership into the Star Alliance will expand its global reach and boost revenue.
Mr Bali confirmed to The Hindustan Times the airline completed the last hurdle before being eligible for membership into the alliance by integrating its codes with former rival Indian Airlines.
The Frankfurt-based Mr Bali announced this during the weekend's ITB Berlin exhibition, and said the airline's international services would also thrive when the first batch of Boeing 787 "Dreamliner" aircraft begins operation later this year.
In all, the airline has ordered 27 "Dreamliners".
Mr Bali told the website the company had recovered from the closure of its Frankfurt hub last year, with an increase in passengers numbers and reducing operational cost.
Mr Bali said the Air India's expansion would mean it planned to extend the Frankfurt to Delhi service by connecting it with Melbourne and Colombo.
