Jet2 is creating more than 100 new jobs at Newcastle airport.
The firm is going to base an extra plane at Newcastle airport next summer, which will generate the new posts.
The budget airline said it was recruiting 118 new airport-based staff, cabin crew and pilots after a record summer at the base.
It said it planned five new routes from Newcastle next year, including Alicante, the Algarve, Toulouse, Krakow and Prague.
Philip Meeson, boss of Jet2.com and Dart Group Plc, said: "We see Newcastle Airport as a really key location for us, hence we are introducing another aircraft, to operate additional destinations and increased flight frequency.
"Customer feedback shows there are additional routes and services the people of the North East want, and we have factored those into our plans."
Jet2's parent company, Dart Group PLC, announced its pre-tax profits were up 38% on last year, to 38.7 million pounds, in its interim results for the half year ending on September 30, 2010.
