Shipping traffic between the ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp, two of the biggest in Europe, was hit by a fire in the area, but the impact was limited, a spokesman for Rotterdam port said on Wednesday.
The fire broke out at the Dutch industrial zone of Moerdijk in a chemicals plant, located near the waterway.
Ships travelling inland were affected by the Moerdijk fire, a Rotterdam port spokesman said, but Rotterdam port itself was unaffected.
