Google on Tuesday announced to open signups of its social network "Google+" after a 90-day invitation-only trial run.
Google's move came two days before Facebook's scheduled function to introduce its new social web building solution known as f8, which is targeting developers, entrepreneurs and innovators.
"We're nowhere near done, but with the improvements we've made so far we're ready to move from field trial to beta, and introduce our 100th feature: open signups," Google said in a blog posting.
Google also rolled out several new features to Hangouts, the videoconferencing service in the social network. The Hangouts feature now is available to mobile devices running Android 2.3 and later devices with front-facing cameras and will be supported on Apple's iOS soon.
Hangout On Air was also introduced. The new feature turns Hangouts to a broadcast medium, in which anyone can tune into although the number of participants is still limited to 10. The first Hangout On Air will be held Wednesday night featuring will.i. am, a member with the music band known as Black Eyed Peas.
