ConocoPhillips China President Georg Storaker makes statement at a news conference in Beijing on Wednesday about the Bohai Bay oil spill earlier this summer.
ConocoPhillips China President Georg Storaker apologized again for the Penglai 19-3 oil spill in Bohai Bay earlier in the summer at a press conference in Beijing on Wednesday. It was the Houston, U.S.-based energy company's first press conference since early June, when the leak first occurred.
Storaker said that one of the two sources of the leak, Platform B, had been sealed by lowering pressure, while the other, Platform C, will be sealed by Aug. 31. He said that a small amount of oil was still leaking beneath the seabed, but that a device was installed on July 2 to collect the residual oil.
ConocoPhillips also has not received any claims for compensation, Storaker said. "If there is any request for compensation, the company will consider it," he said.
