Individual travel for the Chinese mainland tourists to Taiwan will be allowed by the end of June, the mainland-based Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Strait and Straits Exchange Foundation, its Taiwanese counterpart, agreed Wednesday.
At a meeting attended by the Zheng Zhongli, deputy president of the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Strait, and the Kao Koong-lian, vice chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation, negotiators from the two sides reviewed the implementation of cross-Strait agreements.
Addressing issues related to cross-Strait tourism, the two sides agreed to improve the monitoring and supervision of the tourism market and strive to protect tourists' safety.
Negotiators on the same day agreed to increase cross-Strait direct flights to 550 per week from 370. At least two new terminals, Tainan in Taiwan, and Yancheng of east China's Jiangsu Province, will be added.
