China

Chinese shares fell for the sixth consecutive trading day on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.19 percent, or 5.21 points, to 2,736.53.

The Shenzhen Component Index dropped 0.73 percent, or 84.72 points, to close at 11,530.7.

Hong Kong stocks gained 153.51 points, or 0.67 percent, to close at 22,900.79 on Thursday.

Japan

Tokyo stocks closed sharply higher Thursday, with the key Nikkei index surging 1.48 percent.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 Average gained 139.17 points from Wednesday to 9,562.05. The broader Topix index expanded 9.34 points, or 1.14 percent, to 827.08.

Australia

The Australian stock market posted gains of 1.6 per cent to end a four-day losing streak, led higher by gold, energy and materials after a bounce on commodity markets overnight.

The benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was up 75.5 points or 1.65 per cent at 4,660.2, while the broader All Ordinaries index was 73.5 points or 1.58 per cent higher at 4,735.1 points.
