Chinese stocks closed mixed on Tuesday with cement producers rising across the board.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.27 percent, or 7.51 points, to 2,767.06, after tumbling nearly 3 percent to a 16-week low on Monday.
The Shenzhen Component Index rose 0.07 percent, or 7.74 points, to close at 11,749.92, compared with a 3.44-percent drop on Monday.
Japan
Tokyo stocks closed slightly higher Tuesday with the key Nikkei index edging up 0.17 percent.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 Average gained 16.54 points from Monday to 9,477.17, snapping a losing streak in the past three trading days.
The broader Topix index was up 1.48 points, or 0.18 percent, to 819.16.
Australia
The Australian sharemarket recovered from another session deep in the red as bullish calls for commodities triggered bargain hunting in miners.
The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index finished 14.2 points, or 0.31 per cent, down at 4628.8 points.
The broader All Ordinaries index eased by 14.6 points, or 0.3 percent, to 4708.3.
