J. Crew, the Virginia, US-based fashion brand, is planning to launch its first European store in the United Kingdom. The company has zeroed-in on Central London as a probable location for its UK store.

Earlier this year, the fashion retailer expanded its international e-commerce to include shipping to the United Kingdom, while continuing to ship anywhere in the US, Canada and Japan. The company is currently selling clothes in Britain through designer website Net-a-Porter as well as its own website.

J. Crew, a choice of US First Lady Michelle Obama, will join a list of US brands that have opened their stores in London in recent years, including Banana Republic, Forever 21 and Michael Kors.

J. Crew has 235 outlets in the US and it started expanding outside the US with a store in Canada this year. Owing to acquisition-related costs, the fashion retailer has registered a net loss of US$ 40.5 million during the initial six months of the current US financial year, as against a net income of US$ 79.6 million in last financial year.
