The momentum driving cotton research will not be lost as the cotton industry joins forces to plan a seamless transition following the closure of the Cotton Catchment Communities Co-operative Research Centre (Cotton CRC) next year.
A taskforce has been established bringing together Cotton Australia, The Cotton Research & Development Corporation (CRDC) along with the management team at Cotton CRC to preserve and protect the future direction of cotton research.

All of the organisations involved in cotton research have always been able to operate in a co-operative and collaborative manner and after so many years of innovation from the Cotton CRC, everyone will be working hard to ensure none of that research dynamic is lost.
While everyone would have preferred the Cotton CRC to continue, that decision has now been made and our focus is on developing a comprehensive transition plan, ensuring that critical cotton research continues, Mr Kay said.

Our priority will be ensuring that the critical mass of expertise and knowledge developed in cotton research is fully retained within the industry.
The Cotton CRC is finalising plans for a Cotton Science week in March next year, to celebrate the contribution made to research and development by the three Cotton CRC s since the early 1990 s.
After more than 18 years, the Cotton CRC based in Narrabri will close its doors for the last time in June next year.
