After waiting outside an Apple store in New York for some 17 days to purchase the new iPhone 4S, the end is finally in sight for a small group of Apple devotees.
Apple is debuting its fifth generation iPhone in stores in Japan, Australia, France, UK, Germany, Canada and the United States, later on this Friday.
Keenen Thompson decided to wait in line as soon as he heard the company was going to make a big announcement.
"We've been here so far for 17 days waiting for the iPhone 4S. We wanted to come out really early so we could experience being first in line. I've done the wait for an iPhone for all the previous ones and last year I did it for three days and I was number 12, but I really wanted to be number one. I really wanted to experience being number one."
Some market watchers are expecting Apple's fourth-quarter iPhone shipments may reach 30 million or more.
That would almost double the number of iPhones shipped during the same period last year.
The fifth generation of the iconic smartphone comes with a faster processor and a better and more light-sensitive camera.
However, little else separates it from its predecessor as far as new options are concerned.
