The Australian dollar rose more than one U.S. cent on Thursday after riding a wave of confidence generated by positive news from the debt-stricken Eurozone.

At the closing session, the Australian dollar was trading at 96. 56 U.S. cents, up from 95.49 U.S. cents on Wednesday.

During the day, the local unit traded between 96.21 U.S. cents and 96.59 U.S. cents.

At 1700 local time, the Australian dollar was at 74.09 Japanese yen, up from Wednesday's close of 73.24 yen, and at 72.41 euro cents, up from 71.76 euro cents previously.
