Subaru of America will halt production on one of its Indiana plant's production lines temporarily owing to a parts shortage caused by Japan's disaster, the automaker said Wednesday on its website.
The company said that Subaru and Camry production will be shut down on April 15, April 18 and April 25. In addition, April 21 will be a non-production day for Camry only.
Workers on those lines have several options for taking those days off, including using vacation time, personal days and other paid days off, according to the company.
The Lafayette plant employs about 3,550 permanent and temporary workers. The facility produce the Subaru Legacy, Tribeca and Outback vehicles.
The Subaru plant shutdown is the latest sign of trouble for global auto industry stemming from the massive Japanese earthquake a month ago.
Toyota on Monday warned that the uncertain supply of parts from Japan could threaten its output of vehicles through July, while Ford Motor Co. warned that it may has to slow or halt production later this month in the Asia-Pacific region due to the shortage, which could adversely affect its financial outlook.
