Volkswagen of America, Inc., on Monday announced the world debut of an all-new Passat, a transformational car in Volkswagen's ambitious growth plan for the U.S. market at the 2011 North America International Auto Show (NAIAS).
Designed in Germany and manufactured in America, the Passat was developed as a larger vehicle with features that will match it with the tastes and lifestyles of Americans, the firm said in a statement.
The new Passat, the largest ever, is the only midsize sedan that offers superior German engineering at an affordable price. Final pricing will be announced in the spring, but the Passat will start at around 20,000 U.S. dollars when it arrives in dealer showrooms later this year, according to the statement.
The all-new Passat offers three drivetrain options, namely a 2. 5L gasoline engine, an eco-friendly 2.0L TDI clean diesel and a powerful 3.6L VR6.
Based in Germany, Volkswagen is one of the world's top producers of passenger cars and Europe's largest automaker. The two-week 2011 NAIAS kicked off on Monday in Detroit, the U.S. auto city, with around 30 to 40 worldwide debuts taking place at the show.
