Jingniang Lake is an enchanting land with green hills and clear water. It is located in the northwest of Wuan city and about 37 miles away from Handan City. Its name originated from the touching story of Zhao Kuangyin, the first emperor of the Song Dynasty (960 - 1279) who sent off the girl he rescued, Jingniang.
Jingniang Lake got its name from the legend that Emperor Taizu in Song Dynasty (1271-1368) Zhao Kuangyin saw Jingniang off and passed here. There is very beautiful scenery here, with broad and limpid lake surrounded by groups of hills. In the distance, mountains fluctuate, with steep and straight cliff, just like the natural beauty created by the fairy.
Embraced by verdant mountains, Jingniang Lake is picturesque with a variety of both natural and artificial formations. The latter is ever so vividly created that they blended well into the environment and were created based on historical stories. There are 18 scenic sights in all, including Gaoxia Pinghu (Calm Lake Rising from the Steep Gorge), "Fury Lion Raises Its Head", Jingniang Gorge, Songzu Gorge and Xianling Gorge.
Here is also rich humanities scenery. The story that Zhao Kuangyin saw Jingning off took place in the Mendao plain of western branch of Jingniang Lake; along Jingniang gorge and Songzu gorge you can see Dressing Table , Rock for Putting Dresses ; in the scene of Yunya Qizhi , you can enjoy the original handwriting of Zha Kuangyin engraved by the offspring on the cliff.
Jingniang Lake was originally known as Koushang Reservoir which is the inverted Chinese character " " and has eastern and western branches. After years of exploration and development, it has become a tourist resort.
How to get there:
You can take bus in Handan and get off at Wu an bus station, and then change the coach to Jiangniang Lake. The coach is available every half an hour. You can also directly go there by Handan Wu an special traveling bus.
