Peng Lai waterside town located in northwest side of Danya Mountain Shandong of urban area, its history would be pursued until Song Dynasty. Song celebrates and goes through for two years and builds the stockaded village of Coilia ectenes used for parking the man-of-war here, build the waterside town on the basis of former Coilia ectenes stockaded village in nine years in reign of Ming Emperor Hongwu, with the whole area of 270,000 square meters, the south is wide the north is narrow, present the irregular rectangle, shoulder the mountain and accuse of the sea, the situation is dangerously steep, architecture of seaport and coast defence such as its water valve, breakwater, flat wave Taiwan, quay, beacon, city wall, enemy broadcasting station, fort, moat are intact in architecture, it is the extant most intact ancient navy base of China.
In 1982, the waterside town is announced as the Chinese Key Cultural Relic Unit under State Protection by the State Council of China with Peng Lai Pavilion together.
