In possession of nearly 10,000mu water areas, 5,000mu sandbanks, 2,000mu bulrush, 1,000mu lotus root ponds, Shahu Lake district is abundant in fishes and fowls. Here inhabits a dozen of rare birds, such as white cranes, black cranes, swans and so on. You can have an overlook of birds' sporting from the Sight-seeing Tower. Numerous birds nests are nidificated in the bulrush bush, especially at the root of the bulrush. Every spring, birds' eggs of all colors intersperse in the bulrush bush, forming a marvelous spectacle.
If you love both the desert and the world of water, Sand Lake in northwest China is an ideal choice. Located in Pingluo County of the Ningxia Autonomous Region, 56 kilometers (about 35 miles) north of Yinchuan, the capital city of Ningxia, Sand Lake is more than 80 square kilometers (about 31 square miles) in area, including 45 square kilometers (about 17 square miles) of lakes and over 22 square kilometers (about 8 square miles) of desert. This unique, natural scenery attracts millions of visitors from China and abroad.
Besides various breeds of birds, Shahu Lake district boasts for its fishes. In the aquarium on the south bank of Shahu Lake, you will see several dozens of rare fishes, including Wuchang fish, rare-seen in the north part of China, giant salamanders and giant turtle, measuring 1meter around the body.
The reeds and the lotuses seem to be endless at Sand Lake. While riding the motorboats, the breeze in your face and the scenery rushing by will give you an exhilarating feeling. The blue sky, green lake water, yellow sand dunes, green reeds, lotus and beautiful birds create a pure and peaceful picture of nature.
Besides natural beauty, Sand Lake also offers you more than thirty recreational opportunities. Some are only for the adventurous but less strenuous activities are also available, such as water-motorcycling, wind surfing, and sliding down the dunes.

There are special traveling lines from south entrance of Yinchuan to Shahu Lake district, 10yuan RMB per person
Tips: The admission fees include the items of the Sand Lake Wetland Museum, the Sand Figure Garden, the Sightseeing Tower, the Peacock Garden, Ningxia Agricultural Reclamation Museum and the electric power cart.
