Located in 400-meter Ngong Ping Plain of Lantau Island, Po Lin Monastery (Baolian Temple) is the head of the four Buddhist Temple and is praised as Buddha s Land in South China because of its large-scale building and beautiful environment. The temple buildings in the monastery are majestic and magnificent with palace-style Great Buddha s Hall, solemn King Hall, etc. You can overlook the Lantau Peak on Ngong Ping Plain, surrounding mountains constituting a beautiful picture.
The temple is in saddle-roof style with splendid roofs and Chinese Buddhist rooms. Dhue Sum Sangye is worshiped in the main hall, representing the previous life, present life and afterlife. There is a square in front of the temple, where a three-storey alter that imitated Huanqiu of Temple of Heaven is built.
A towering column-style stone building stands in front of the Po Lin Monastery whose horizontal inscribed board in the middle writes Po Lin Monastery . After passing the board, you can see a paved path leading to the gate of the monastery. Under the gate, there is a big and high stone step under which are three arch coupons doors.
On the top of the Myyu Mountain in the opposite of Po Lin Monastery, there is the biggest outdoor bronze statue in the world-Tiantan Buddha Statue (Giant Bronze Buddha).
Po Lin Monastery is a sacred Buddhist shrine of Hong Kong where devotees to the Buddha is in an endless stream all the year around. Dharma assembly is held in the temple from April 2nd to 8th in traditional Chinese calendar. Besides, there are a series of Buddhist activities held here every year, including doctrines-teaching, Kung Fu show, acrobatic performance, etc. Bath of Buddha Ceremony and celebration activities of Buddha s birthday are important Buddhist activities held every year in the temple.
