Cheung Chau, located in southwestern Hong Kong, resembles a dumbbell and is roughly a 30-55 minute boat ride from Central.
Cheung Chau is endowed with beautiful scenery, and is one of Hong Kong s most popular offshore islands. There are various stores and stalls along the streets near the sea, all of them selling produce, such as raw meats, fresh fish shellfish, fruits and vegetables. One can also find authentic restaurants and snack bars replete with local dishes all over the island. Cheung Chau is particularly popular at weekends, and boasts many excellent Chinese restaurants which provide menus in both Chinese and English for the convenience of all customers.
The determined tourist can also find the odd Western. The attractions in Cheung Chau include Perk Tai Temple, which was built in the 48th year of Emperor Qianlong s reign (1783), Tung Wan and Kwun Yam Wan, which are extremely popular swimming spots and Cheung Po Tsai Cave.
