Brief information on Laoshan Scenic Area

Laoshan Mountain (i.e. Mount Lao), located at the seashore of the Yellow Sea, is a famous tourist destination. It has the highest coastal peak of China, Laoding, 1,133 meters above sea level. Since ancient times, Laoshan Mountain was regarded as the mountain where immortals live. The First Emperor of Qing Dynasty and Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty once visited Laoshan Mountain to search for immortals. Emperor Minghuang of Tang Dynasty also sent someone to refine elixirs on Laoshan Mountain.
On Laoshan Mountain, there are remarkable rocks and queer caves as well as clear springs and flowing cascades. The human and natural landscapes enhance each other s beauty. In 1982, Laoshan Mountain was confirmed as the National Key Scenic Area by State Council and National Forest Park by Ministry of Forestry.
Currently, the Laoshan Scenic Area occupies an area of 446 km2. The main attractions include Beijiushui, Shangqing Palace, Taiqing Palace, Longtan Waterfall, Taiping Palace, Mingxia Cave, Beizhai Agricultural Eco-Tourism Area, Jufeng Scenic Area, etc.
If you plan to visit Laoshan Scenic Area; there are four routes for you to choose from. Three routes (south route, east route and middle route) are land roads, and one is a waterway. The south route is short. You can visit several famous attractions and then be back in the same day leisurely. The tourist bus and Buses 104, 113, 304, etc. ply this route. The east route starts from Li Village. If you have enough time, you can charter a minibus or car along the east route and the south route in one day. Buses 123, 312, and 106 don t lead to the south route but the east route.
The middle route also starts from Li Village. You can charter a taxi or take Buses 107, 110, 311 and 365 to visit the attractions along this route. The waterway starts from the tour pier in Qingdao Bay, and then reaches Taiqing and Shangqing Scenic Areas.
