The famous Chengziya Ruins Museum is built on Chengziya ruins in Longshan Village of Zhangqiu City, within 25km from Jinan. The old Guanlu and Wuyuan rivers pass nearby. To the east with no more than 2km distance is the ruins of Dongping Mausoleum. Chengziya Ruins Museum takes up a land of 20,000 square meters, the major building occupying 4,000 square meters, with a total investment reaching 6 million RMB. The museum looks like a legendary bird, with the head being the shopping and rest hall, the right wing being three antique exhibition halls, the left wing being five handicrafts exhibition halls, the tail being the well-equipped activity room and the middle part being the office and multi-functional ball and meeting rooms. The Jinan Chinese Dragon Hill Culture Research Institute is instituted inside the museum.
Discovered in 1928 by archaeologist Wu Heding, Chengziya Ruins Museum is the first discovered site among the Longshan Culture Sites and is regarded as the Mecca for china's archaeologists. In 1930 and 1931 the first excavation to these ruins was carried out. This is the first prehistoric ruin discovered and excavated exclusively by Chinese scholars and it is the first time to adopt modern technique in China's archaeology history. The book Chengziya, published in 1934, is the first collection of papers by Chinese archaeologists derived from field studies. The first excavation to the Chengziya ruins denied the hypothesis that China's prehistoric culture comes from the west and is a proof that China has the glory of 5000 years of civilization.
Chengziya Ruins Museum has been nominated by the provincial and municipal governments as one of the first-batch patriotism education bases.
Leaders of various levels have visited this museum. The mayor of Jinan, Xieyutang, once praised this museum as "Longshan Culture is immortal throughout history."
Since its opening, this museum has received more than 500,000 visitors from home and abroad and contributed its share to popularize "Jinan- International Longshan Culture Festival" and promote Jinan's foreign trade and economic contacts, international communication and wider opening to the outside.
