Yuexiu Park is named after Yuexiu Mountain, which is natural defense in the northern part of the Guangzhou city together with Bai Yun Mountain. With height of more than 7000m above sea level, it is also historically known as Yue (Guangdong) Xiu Mountain, Yue Wang Mountain.
Yuexiu Park is located in the downtown Guangzhou; covering an area of 93 hectares, it is considered to be the largest park in Guangzhou. It consists of seven peaks and three artificial lakes - Beixiu Lake, Nanxiu Lake, and Dongxiu Lake. The Park offers not only beautiful hills and waters but plenty of historical relics.
The Five-Ram Sculpture in the Yuexiu Park is the emblem of Guangzhou City. Each ram carries a stem of rice, which they presented to the people as a suspicious sign of a rich and populous Guangzhou. City of Rams and the City of Ears are the nicknames of Guangzhou city.
Standing on the top of Yuexiu Mountain, Zhenhai Tower is better known as Five-Story Tower or Five-Story Pagoda. It is said that the tower built in Ming Dynasty to subdue the omen of a new emperor in southern China. It is a magnificent building and offers bird's-eye view of whole city.
