East Lake Scenic Spot is located in the eastern suburb of Wuchang, and is the biggest urban lake in China. The total water area of East Lake is six times greater than that of West Lake. In 1982, East Lake Scenic Spot was included in the list of the first National Key Scenic Spots, and welcomed 2 million tourists. In 1999, East Lake Scenic Spot was awarded the title of National Civilized Scenic Area. In 2000, East Lake Scenic Spot became one of the first National AAAA Level Tourist Attractions. East Lake Scenic Spot also houses numerous other areas of great interest to tourists, such as Mo Hill Scenic Area, Tingtao Scenic Area, Luoyan Scenic Area, Chuidi Scenic Area, Oriental Cherry Garden, Birds Whistling Woods and Plum Blossom Garden. After February 2010 East Lake Scenic Spot will host a number of festivals, among them Plum Blossom Festival, Lotus Festival and Oriental Cherry Festival. All of this will add an extra magical dimension for visitors lucky enough to get here.
