The World Horticultural Exposition Garden played host to the 1999 Kunming World Horticultural Exposition. It is located in the northeast section of Kunming, about six kilometers from the city center and adjacent to Golden Temple Scenic Area. The garden collects first-class horticulture from all over the world. Occupying an area of 218 hectares, it consists of five large exhibition halls (the China Hall, the Man and Nature Hall, the Green House, the Science and Technology Hall, and the International Hall), three outdoor showplaces (the International Outdoor Exhibition Area, the Domestic Outdoor Exhibition Area, and the Enterprise Exhibition Area), six theme gardens (the Tree Garden, the Tea Garden, the Bonsai Garden, the Medicinal Herb Garden, the Bamboo Garden, and the Vegetable and Fruit Garden), as well as two large squares (Century Plaza and the Performance Plaza).
With the theme of the harmonious relationship between man and nature, the World Horticultural Exposition Garden melds with the surrounding water, forests, and mountains, reflecting that it comes from nature and returns to nature. It has already become an important landmark in Kunming.
