Former Residence of Dr. Sun Yat-sen was the place where Dr. Sun Yat-sen and his wife Madam Song Chingling lived and worked in Shanghai between 1918 and 1924. This peaceful and secluded garden residence is a two-storey European-style building. On the first floor is the dining room and living room; upstairs is the bedroom and study.
The house was donated by overseas Chinese in Canada in support of Dr. Sun s revolutionary activities. It was here that Sun Yat-sen reshuffled the Chinese Nationalist Party (Kuomintang), reached an agreement for cooperation between the Chinese Nationalist Party and the Chinese Communist Party, and formulated his plan for the International Development of China.
Today, all the rooms are arranged as they were when Dr. Sun lived here and most of the furniture and articles on display in the residence are the original ones used by Dr. Sun Yat-sen and Madam Song Chingling. The house is a fascinating insight into the life of the revolutionary man, a window into history which is usually peaceful and free from crowds.
