Beijing Zoo, which is located in Xicheng District, was the first zoo opened to the public in China, and displays various wild and rare animals native to China, such as pandas and golden monkeys. Moreover, it houses many rare animals from all over the world, such as white bears from the North Pole, kangaroos from Australia and zebras from Africa.
Covering an area of more than 50 hectares, Beijing Zoo owns 900 different species and over 20,000 animals. Different animals have different exhibition areas and halls, such as rhinoceros hall, elephant hall and the halls of sea creatures. Panda Hall is one of the most attractive Halls. It was constructed in 1989 and covers an area of about 10,000 square meters. The inside of the hall is in the style of traditional Chinese gardens. The Gorilla Hall, which was built earlier than the Panda hall, is another famous hall in the zoo. The building houses a series of artificial hills and wooden apparatus for the animals, such as a medical room, a mating room and a feeding room. The hall itself features many hills and pools.
With continuous development over the past century, Beijing Zoo has become one of the largest zoos in China. Visitors can see various wild and rare animals freely, and enjoy an educational experience second to none.
