Foshan Wushu (Martial Art)

Wushu means martial art, is also known as Kungfu. Foshan is the hometown of Chinese kungfu, there are many famous kungfu figures come from this area, such as Bruce Li, Huang Feihong, etc.

Foshan has an important position in kungfu history of China. It was closely associated with the social economic development of Foshan in Ming Dyansty and Qing Dynasty. As the textile, dyeing, casting, ceramics and agricultural products processing developed rapidly, the jobholders were found the Wushu activities.

In Foshan, there appeared famous Wushu schools in modern times, such as Hongsheng Guan and Foshan Jingwu Sports Society , etc. These schools and societies were deeply connected with modern revolutions in China and were the frontline for Sino-foreign Wushu exchanges.

The south wushu schools emphasize on boxing within a scope of cow , focus on short boxing and striking. Though some famous wushu styles are not originated from Foshan, but they really get a welll development here, such as Yongchun Boxing style, Cailifo Boxing style, etc.

Furthermore, the cantonese opera and the Chinese traditional medicine

are closely connected with Wushu, thus Foshan is a famous home for Cantonese Opera and Chinese Traditional Medicine.

At early times, many people with kungfu in Foshan went abroad. groups of Wushu experts left to Hong Kong and other places in the world, which objectively promoted Chinese wushu in the world. After establishment of the People s Republic of China, the Foshan Wushu experts have made their contribution to medical health, sports, entertainment, artistic performance, historical and cultural relics and tourism.
