HSBC appoints new group managing director

HONG KONG -- Banking giant HSBC Holdings said on Wedsnesday that it has appointed Richard Bennett as its group managing director with effect from May 3, 2011.

Bennett, who will also join the group management board, will continue to report to the Group's Chief Executive Stuart Gulliver, said HSBC in a statement filed to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.

Bennett, 59, has been group general counsel since January 2010. As a qualified lawyer, he joined the group in Hong Kong in 1979 as the assistant group legal adviser.

From January 1998, Bennett returned to the UK to take up the position of group general manager and group head of legal and compliance from January 1998.
