New Move to Tackle Fake Websites, ICBC firstly launched Internet Banking "Reserved Information Verification" Service

Recently, ICBC was the first to launch "Reserved Information Verification" service to help customer effectively identify fake bank websites. According to the ICBC Person-in-charge of E-banking Department, this service is one of the Internet Banking security measures newly launched by ICBC. Customers can effectively avoid the loss of their funds arising from entering such sensitive information as account numbers and passwords on fake bank websites or web pages. It is also an effective precaution against crackers who make use of bogus bank websites to defraud.

It is introduced that the open and use of "Reserved Information Verification" service is very simple. Customers only need to set their reserved verification information through "Banking@Home" of ICBC Personal Internet Banking or go to any ICBC business offices. "Reserved Information" can be a specified paragraph of text or a string of maximum 60 characters, which can be any combination of Chinese characters, English letters or symbols.

It will automatically link to the payment page of ICBC Internet Banking when customer makes payment for online shopping or online signing of Agent Bill Payment Agreement. In this payment page, customer input payment card numbers and click "Verify Reserved Information" button. The information that customer reserved at ICBC will be displayed in the information box below the button if the merchant is an ICBC specified website.

Customer can then pay securely after verification without error. Otherwise, the website is not an ICBC specified website if the reserved information cannot be correctly returned. Customer should stop payment immediately and calls 95588 for confirmation in order to avoid any monetary loss.

Person in charge of ICBC E-banking Department further reminds customer not to enter "Reserved Information" on any other websites other than set or change it in ICBC Personal Internet Banking or ICBC business offices, and do not disclose it to any person who can not be trusted. This is to stop any opportunity for any illegitimate users and to truly protect the security of customer's fund in Internet Banking.

Currently, in addition to "Reserved Information Verification" service, ICBC has already launched a series of security measures to meet the needs of its diversified clients. The first measure is for customer who has "USB-Shield" digital certificate. Through personal certificate authentication and digital signature technology, customer not only effectively prevents various potential security incidents, but also exceeds the payment limit on transfer, remit and make payments in large value on the net.

The second measure is for customer who does not have "USB-Shield" digital certificate. Security is ensured through such measures as ID logon (a kind of self-defined logon way that different from traditional way of account number logon), dual passwords protection of logon and payment, and payment limit control.

Third measure is to identify and safeguard against fake bank website via IP address validation or website certificate authentication (please click the "Encrypt Key" icon at the lower right corner of ICBC web page).
