Kaltim Methanol Industri's 660,000 mt/year methanol plant in Bontang, Indonesia will undergo a 40-day turnaround in the fourth quarter this year, a company source said Wednesday.

The exact timing of the shutdown has not yet been confirmed, said the source, adding that methanol deliveries in the third quarter will be affected.

"We need to build inventory for the fourth quarter. So delivery in the third quarter should [be] reduced by around 30% from the total average monthly delivery," he said, adding that average monthly deliveries from the plant are about 60,000 mt.

The plant is currently running at 105% of its operating capacity, producing 2,100 mt of methanol a day, said the source. The plant was last shut for a turnaround on October 4, 2010 and restarted on November 17.

Kaltim Methanol Industri is a joint venture between Japanese trading house Sojitz (85%), Indonesia's Humpuss Trading (10%) and Japan's Daicel Chemical Singapore (5%).
