A large-scale exhibition of works of art by Chinese artists around the world came to a successful end in Hong Kong the other day. The exhibition was an integral part of the 13th International Congress of Chinese Artists around the World. Through rounds of strict selection, Lin Yunhan, a master of Qingtian stone carving won a gold prize with his work Mutualistic symbiosis between Rice and Fish.
The International Congress of Chinese Artists around the World was jointly hosted by World Artists Association, World Culture and Art Research Center, World Chinese Interchange Association and World Daily.
Mutualistic symbiosis between Rice and Fish is a stone carving work commemorating the fifth anniversary since The Rice and Fish Symbiotic System, a farming tradition of Qiingtian county was listed one of the globally important agricultural heritages (GIAHS) by UNESCO in 2005. Taking a yellow and greenish lardite quarried at Fengmen Mountain of Qingtian, a kind of famous Qingtian stone, as material, and applying the techniques like three-dimentional piercing and circular engravure, this work presents a striking color contrast between exquisite and orderly golden rice grains and fish, as well as green rice leaves. With even density and subtle engraving, it displays the harmonious blending of fish and rice and brings about a strong overall visual impact. It is considered as one of the most representative works manifesting the charm of Qingtian stone carving.

Previously, Ni Dongfang and Lin Fuzhao, another two masters of Qingtian stone carving, respectively won the prize in 1997 and 1999.
