Wen Jiabao tells the world a Real China

On September 23, 2010, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao attended the 65th general debate of the General Assembly and delivered a speech entitled to Know the Real China at the UN headquarters, New York.

Wen said that the People's Republic of China has experienced earthshaking changes since its founding, especially since the launch of reform and opening-up more than 30 years ago and completed the historic leap from meeting the basic living needs to building a better-off society in general. But China is still in the primary stage of socialism and remains a developing country. And this is the real China.

He noted that the Chinese people will stay firmly committed to reform and opening-up and the path of peaceful development, continue to concentrate on economic development, deepen institutional reform, open wider to the outside world, develop education, science and technology and carry forward the essence of Chinese culture. China's development will neither hurt nor threaten anyone. China will never follow the footsteps of big powers which sought hegemony once they grew strong.

He stressed that China values friendship but sticks to principles. The country unswervingly maintains its core national interest. On issues concerning sovereignty, reunification and territorial integrity, China will in no way concede or compromise.

He said finally that China's development brings opportunities to the world and a better-off China benefits the world. China which pursues peaceful development, China which is full of energy and China which dares to take responsibility will always move forward together with the world.
