Overall Cooperation Framework Memo Signed by UN and SISU

Mr. Yohannes Mengesha, Assistant Secretary-General, accompanied by Mr. Xu Yanan, Director of UN Secretariat Chinese Translation Section, visited the Graduate Institute of Interpretation and Translation at ShanghaiInternationalStudiesUniversity on Aug. 5th, 2008. President Cao Deming welcomed the UN guests on behalf of SISU and signed the Overall Cooperation Framework Memo.

Prof. Chai Mingjiong, Dean of Graduate Institute of Interpretation and Translation, and Prof. Dai Huiping, Vice Dean of Graduate Institute of Interpretation and Translation showed around Mr. Mankasha and Ms. Xu Yanan the facility, and introduced the teaching mode and developmental history of the college. After that, President Cao representing SISU met with the group and had a pleasant talk with them. Prof. Cao briefed them on the recent development of SISU and the great achievements scored by the college in cooperation with other international entities. Mr. Yohannes Mengesha, Assistant Secretary-General, was impressed by the internationally standard training mode used in the college and was quite satisfied to cooperate with such a prestigious university like SISU. Other faculty members present included Prof. Xie Tianzhen, Associated Prof. Zhang Ailing, etc.

After the talk, Mr. Yohannes Mengesha, Assistant Secretary-General, and President Cao Deming, representing UN and SISU respectively, signed the Overall Cooperation Framework Memo regarding cooperation in the fields of translation and interpretation through Graduate Institute of Interpretation and Translation. After the signing ceremony, Mr. Yohannes Mengesha attended an informal discussion with students of the college.
