Successful automatic flight of a rotorcraft flying robot

A rotorcraft unmanned aerial vehicle (RUAV) developed by the State Lab of Robotics at the CAS Shengyang Institute of Automation (SIA) has recently completed its autonomous flight in south China.
After taking off by itself, the vehicle, with a payload of 15 kg, autonomously performed such maneuvers as hovering, ascending, speeding up, slowing down, trajectory tracking, and descending. Finally, it landed smoothly in a predetermined area.
The test shows that the RUAV could complete its mission without the control of a human operator, laying a solid foundation for many State research projects in this aspect. The successful flight marked a breakthrough progress in full-mission flight of a rotorcraft UAV in an autonomous mode, according to experts.
