On March 8, a seven people delegation headed by Prof. Yu Shicheng, President of SMU visited the Regional Maritime University (RMU) Accra, Ghana and was warmly received by Mr. Alock Asamoah, President of RMU.

During the talk, President Yu pointed out that since SMU signed a memorandum of cooperation with RMU in 2008, both sides had made great progress in mutual exchange. He hoped that the two sides would further intensify cooperation in broader aspects. President Asamoah said the joint project in Logistics Management had important meanings to the development of RMU. The two sides also exchanged ideas about teaching arrangement and student management as respect to the joint program. After the talk, President Yu visited the campus and its teaching facilities.

That day, President Yu also paid a visit to Mr. Gong Jianzhong, Ambassador of People s Republic of China in Ghana. President Yu briefed the cooperation and exchange between SMU and RMU to Ambassador Gong. Ambassador Gong gave some basic information of Ghana in politics, economy and cultural exchange to the delegation and he also expressed his expectation of SMU for a sustainable cooperation between SMU and RMU. Later on, accompanied by President Asamoah, President Yu visited Ms. Dzifa Aku Attivor, Deputy Minister of Transport of Ghana.

The Regional Maritime University (RMU), Accra, Ghana, is an international tertiary institution with the following countries as founding members: Republics of Cameroon, The Gambia, Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone. At present the university runs five bachelor s degree programs and one master s degree program.

Since its founding in 1983, the university has produced thousands of specialists for shipping industry. Since SMU and RMU had signed the memorandum of cooperation in 2008, the two universities had pursued cooperation in academic exchange and marine simulator development and signed an undergraduate education cooperation agreement on Logistics Management in April, 2010.
