Mr. Li Zhaoxing, former Minister of Foreign Affairs was employed as consultant and Honorary professor of our university on December 5^th, on the occasion of the undergraduate teaching assessment was ongoing in our university. Mr. Li, who has the fame as Poet-diplomat gave a vivid lesson of patriotism, expounding the international situation, diplomatic experiences, and tactics of a skilled diplomat etc, and captured all the audience in a short period of 40 minutes by his manner and charm.

Present on the employment ceremony included Li chunyan, deputy director of Foreign Affairs Department of Guangdong Province, Professor Dai Xingyue of Peking University, Dai Bin, Councilor of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, heads of our university, and faculties and students of our university.

The ceremony was chaired by Mr. Jiang Shuzhuo, vice president of our university, who read out the decision of employment on behalf of our university, and gave a brief introduction to Mr.Li Zhaoxing.

In a storm of applause, Mr. Hu Jun, president of our university conferred the letters of employment to Mr. Li and made present to him a badge of our university.

Later, Mr. Hu Jun delivered a speech. He said that the employment of Mr. Li Zhaoxing as the consultant and honorary professor was the common wish and glory of the whole university. He gave retrospection to the internationality of our university from the establishment of foreign language department in 1920s, to the establishment of South Pacific Cultural Education Department in 1927, from the study of Mr.

Wu Xuqian, a former minister of foreign affairs in our university to the commitment and development strategy of our university. Mr. Hu Jun also said that the concerns and support from the ministry of foreign affairs were indispensable to the development of Jinan University and hoped that Mr. Li could give support to our university as always, and the university would be dedicated to improve its teaching quality and upgrade itself to become an international and national renowned university as soon as possible.

Mr. Li Zhaoxing said to the students of our university that our epoch was as great as the epoch when Marx lived in ---- in Marx s word --- an epoch needs genius and creates genius and was even greater, and our epoch more called for the emerge of genius and believed that he or she would appear among the young generation of students. By finalizing his speech, he hoped that the university would be side by side with him to work for the future of our beloved country.
