JNU to Launch Postgraduate Scholarship program

The 2010 prograduate admission press briefing was held in September 21th. On the press briefing, Mr. Hu Jun first introduce the five features reflected in the postgraduate admission this year and said the the purpose of launching the program was to effectively attract students and improve teaching quality. Ms Ji Zong an and Mr. Zheng Wenjie, director of the Department of pPostgraduate Affairs gave a detailed introduction to the general policy of admission and the measures of reformation.
PH.D. can get grants as high as 200 thousand RMB
Doctor degree candidates are the key of beneficiaries in the postgraduate culivation system reform that our university. After the reformation, full time doctor degree candidate with no preditermined job can get a grant of at least 120 thousand RMB, and some can ever get as high as 200 thousand RMB in the three-year study. And all the full time doctor degree candidates with no preditermined jobs are covered by the program. The purpose is to lighten the financial pressures of the postgraduates so that they can lead a decent life and concentrate themselves on study and research.
Actually a scholarship program called Outstanding doctor degree candidates scaling Program was carried out as early as in 2008 that 10 full time doctor degree candidates with no predetermined job were selected according to their academic meris and given a grant of 5,000 RMB/month and lengthen their academic year from threes years to four years if needed.
Triple Awards to atract excellent students
In order to attract more excellent student to apply to the postgraduate programs, our university also carried out an Outstanding Postgraduates Exempt of Entrance Examination Award program. The purpose of setting up the program is to attract excellent graduates from 985 program universities and 211 programs universities to apply to the master degree programs of our univeristy by providing non-monetary awards, namely, supports to a series of research programs established by our university. Once admitted, this kind of graduates, amounting to 600-700 persons, accounts to 30% of the total students to be admitted to the master degree programs.
