At the invitation of the Chinese Embassy in South Africa, with the support of Confucius Institute Headquaters, our university sent an art troupe of 25 teachers and students to South Africa on September 25th to attend National Day Celebrations held by Chinese Embassy to South Africa.
On the noon of September 27, the 61st National Day Reception was held by the PRC Embassy in Pretoria, the administrative capital of South Africa. Senior officials of South African government, officials from foreign embassies, consulates and government agencies in South Africa, representatives of overseas Chinese and Chinese students abroad and people from all walks of life in South Africa attended the reception. Our university s art troupe put up a wonderful performance, including classical dancing "Tao Yao", Dai dancing "Shao Duoli", Guangdong dancing "Xiguan", the song "Today Is Your Birthday, My Motherland ", Chinese martial arts and other programs. The performance with Chinese characteristics ignited the audience's enthusiasm, especially when all the actors were singing the theme song of the World Cup in South Africa, the familiar music resonated in the audience.
This is the first time that JNU has ever sent out an art troupe to attend our National Day celebrations held abroad, which is also rare among universities in China. This troupe is also the first one that has ever been invited by the Chinese Embassy to a foreign country. The show is the troupe s debut and the performances are highly acclaimed and our students are highly appreciated for their "unforgettable spirit of youth."
