Shengzhen and SYSU will co-build a cancer hospital

Shengzhen has been in lack of specialized cancer hospital, and the majority of cancer patients always go north to Guangzhou, Beijing and Shanghai for medical treatment. Yesterday in news release conference of World Cancer Campaign (WCC), Zeng Yixin, Director of Sun Yet-sen University Affiliated Cancer Hospital, said that Shengzhen Department of Health has contacted with SYSU, and both sides are planning to build Shengzhen Cancer Hospital in Bantian District, Shengzhen, which will be mandated by the Sun Yet-sen University Affiliated Cancer Hospital.
Zeng said that the new hospital will reach the standard of the Sun Yet-sen University Affiliated Cancer Hospital within two years. But this project still waits for the final approval of Shenzhen Municipal Government. "Once a former mayor of Shengzhen went to visit patients at the Sun Yet-sen University Affiliated Cancer Hospital, and found several acquaintances there. There were seventeen beds for senior cadre at that time, and patients from Shengzhen made up of seven." Zeng said, lots of cancer patients from Shengzhen went there for treatment every year. The Sun Yet-sen University Affiliated Cancer Hospital, formerly known as South China Cancer Hospital, was founded in 1964. It was the largest and the most influential cancer hospital in South China, integrating medical, teaching, research and prevention.
