Drunk drivers

POLICE detained 20 drunk drivers during the three-day New Year holiday.

There was an average of 2,000 traffic accident reports each day during the holiday, down 40 percent compared with normal days.

Police said Dongmen Road and roads leading to Shenzhen Fairy Lake Botanical Garden, the mangrove forest section of Binhai Road and Huaqiang Road were frequently congested with heavy vehicle flows.

Gas leak

A WOMAN was seriously injured in a gas explosion in her apartment in Bantian, Longgang District, on Monday evening.

The woman Li, 30, a native of Chongqing, suffered burns to her face and left leg when she ignited the gas to cook the evening meal. Her husband Wu said the gas leak was probably caused by a decaying rubber hose.

The explosion damaged the kitchen and guest room and also shattered windows in neighboring apartments.

Electricity burn

A MAN was seriously burned by an overhanging high-voltage electric cable when he was relieving himself behind a construction site near Haiya Department Store in Bao an District on Saturday.

The man Zhang, 38, was in intensive care at the Shenzhen No. 2 People s Hospital. Doctors said Zhang suffered burns to his arms and stomach.

A COMPANY manager had offered to pay living costs and education fees for 5-year-old Lan Yeyi, who is taking care of her terminally ill father.

Lan had to quit kindergarten to help her father in his bicycle repair business. Her mother left in 2008.
