Vehicle theft

FIVE suspects have been caught by Longgang police for allegedly stealing vehicles in regions including Longgang, Huizhou and Dongguan. Initial investigations found the suspects were involved in more than 20 cases of vehicle theft.

Supermarket theft

A SECURITY guard and his wife were detained by Bao an police for conspiring to steal nearly 1,000 yuan (US$152) worth of goods from a supermarket in Xixiang, Bao an District.

A supermarket employee saw the woman, surnamed Yu, walking directly to the exit and presenting a receipt to a security guard, who let her pass after looking at the receipt. The employee, Zhang, went forward and stopped Yu before reporting to police. The security guard turned out to be Yu s husband.

Student mules

SMUGGLERS in Zhongying Street have been found to hire middle school students as mules people paid to smuggle goods in and out of Shenzhen.

In one instance, a middle school student was caught last week trying to carry 6,568 SD cards into Shenzhen by strapping them to her waist, arms and legs, Shatoujiao Customs said. The student, who was not identified, said she had been promised a 400-yuan reward if she could successfully carry the cards across the border.

Body search

A MAN was taken away by police for questioning after he searched the bodies of passengers on a bus in Bao an District on Tuesday to look for his lost mobile phone.

A passenger, Tang, said the man was so agitated that he threatened to use a knife if the passengers didn t cooperate. Police arrived after receiving reports and found the man had only a fingernail clipper on him.
