The check shows that 90%of 352 bulks of overseas cotton is disqualified in Weifang City

The reporter known from Wei Fang Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau that among the imported 252 bulks of cotton for 2006 in Weifang, 227 bulks of ones is disqualified, accounting for 90%.

It is learned that Weifang Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine has inspected 252 batches of overseas cotton, weight 66100tons, total value 86.5928million USD, including unqualified 227batches of one, weighing 64000tons, total value 83.55million USD since May.1.06. In 2006, Weifang city textile enterprises won compensation of 1.2631million USD.

It is introduced that among total disqualified overseas cotton, 112 batches is inferior in quality; 222 ones are shortage of weight. This disqualified cotton are imported from US, Mali, India etc, the dominant US cotton accounting for 41.62%.

In addition, in 2006, 100 batches of inspected overseas cotton is reserved by country, total 38900ton, value 31.8226million USD. Among above cotton, 6 batches—304 bundles is not up to standard for storage due to mold, smear, besmirch, total 68ton. It is also learned that these cotton are from US.

In 2007, Wei Fang Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau plans to continue the inspection on cotton to protect traders’ rights and interests.
