An professor from China Artists Association said Hainan should elevate influence and exposure by organizing more international art activities.

Liu Dawei, chairman of China Artists Association and dean of the Fine Arts Department at PLA Art Academy, said Hainan's natural scenery provides a variety of source material for the creation and development of art.

Culture construction, which brings huge potential to the prosperity of art, is one of the most important constructions of Hainan International Tourism Island.

In the early 1990s, Liu went to Hainan to paint from life and created lots of Hainan-themed works. Hainan's tourism hardware is world-class, but it lacks cultural software because the elements of Hainan's basic appearance and social character, which concerns tourists, can be manifested through culture, Liu said, adding that the government should pay more attention to the cultural software.

Liu said the songs whose themes are about Hainan are popular throughout China, while the influence of art is far inferior. Art has huge impact on tourism and often outstanding art works are the best advertising for tourism, such as Chen Yifei's oil painting Twin Bridges, which attracted many tourists to Zhouzhuang, Liu said

Hainan should elevate influence and exposure by organizing more international art activities, Liu said.
