Yucheng Station, a site of cultural relics under State protection, is located outside the southern gate of the city of Gaoyou. Built in 1375, it is one of the best-preserved and largest ancient stations in China. Gaoyou is also called Yucheng.
The station has various facilities including main halls, five
rooms, five gift-presenting halls, a three-room storehouse, a
14-room kitchen and 12 stables.
Discovered in the 1985 general investigation of cultural relics, it
was renovated by the Gaoyou city government in 1993, which was
completed in October 1995.
The first phase of Yucheng Station renovation project renovates the
main part in the front of the station, which houses detailed
historical materials and numerous photos for the Exhibition of the
Historical Development about China's Ancient Post Offices and
Stations.
Meanwhile, a great many cultural relics and historical documents on
posting and transport are displayed, unfolding the history of the
Chinese posting and transport over more than 3,000 years.
