The Nanguan Mosque is located at the Yuhuang Pavilion South Street, Xingqing District, southeast of the Yinchuan city.
It is the largest Mosque in Yinchuan.
The Nanguan Mosque has a long history. Towards the end of the Ming Dynasty, the original location was at the Gongbei Pavilion, outside the Nanguan District and the size was small. In 1916, the Mosque was moved to Nanguan District and was rebuilt into a classical large-scaled Mosque. During the 60s of the 20th century, the Mosque was totally destroyed. In 1981, many Muslims raised funds to rebuild the Mosque at Nanguan.
The main building of the rebuilt Nanguan Mosque is 26 meters high and facing east. The Nanguan Mosque covers an area of about 10,000 square meters. The main building has two stories and a circular vault. In the second floor, there are the Main Hall and the balcony. The square Main Hall can accommodate more than 1,300 people attending worships at one time. In the first floor, there are a spatial Shower Room, Chapel, Hall of Worship for Women, Arabic School, Bedroom for Imam, Office, Reception Room and etc. All these places are connected by winding corridors.
On top of the main building, there stand five green hemispherical decorations in center. Among these five decorations, there is a big one. It is in the middle and has a diameter of nine meters. On top of this big one, there is a crescent-shaped decoration. The left four decorations are small and each has a diameter of three meters.
They are distributed in the four corners. Looked far from the distance, the green vault is shining. It is quite spectacular. In front of the main building, there is a staircase leading to the second floor. On both sides of the staircase, there are flower nurseries. In the middle of the front part of the main building, there is a fountain which has a diameter of 15 meters.
Many flowers and trees are planted around it. In addition, there are two minarets, each 30 meters high, standing at both sides of the fountain. In the Mosque, tourists can also find many precious pines and other kinds of trees and flowers. In general, it is a building compact in structure, neat in layout and magnificent in scale.
The Nanguan Mosque is famous for its unique, graceful structure and classical Islamic architectural style. It is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. Moreover, it is also one of the most important Religious Sites which are open to public. In recent years, many leaders and foreign friends from more than 90 countries and regions come to visit the Nanguan Mosque. Many overseas Muslims also come here to attend worships.
