The American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC) encourages creativity in textile and product design by offering cash and prizes to top student designers. Developed by AATCC’s Concept 2 Consumer (C2C) interest group, the C2C Student Design Competition gives students a venue to submit their original fabric designs, product designs, or both! This year's 2010 Summer Bling!-themed competition garnered 70 entries from 16 schools.
Launched in August 2009, the Summer Bling’ competition gave students the challenge of creating a fabric or product design for pool and beachwear based on the color palettes from Pantone View Colour Planner Summer 2010 ‘Magic’.Each design collection incorporated "bling" three-dimensional surface embellishments ranging from beading and embroidery to knotting and smocking.
Stay tuned for the announcement of the 10 finalists on March 12, 2010! These students will be eligible for first place cash awards of US$1,000 along with a copy of Pantone’s Cotton Passport. Second place prizes are US$500 in both the fabric and product design categories.
